Everyone says they are doing AI.

This report shows why most are still not getting value.

I went through Cloudera’s Data Readiness Index, and one thing stood out immediately.
AI adoption is not the problem anymore. Data is.

96% of organizations have already embedded AI into core business processes.
But at the same time,
79% say they cannot access all the data they need across environments.

That gap explains almost everything.

Another stat that really stood out:

85% believe they have a clear data strategy.
But only, 18% say their data is fully governed.

This is not a tooling issue. This is an execution problem. Most companies know what to do. Very few have actually done it.

The report also makes it clear why AI ROI is still inconsistent.

From the data:

  • 22% say data quality is the biggest issue

  • 16% point to cost overruns

  • 15% struggle with integrating AI into workflows

This aligns with what I keep seeing.

AI does not fail at the model level.
It fails at the data layer and the workflow layer.

There is also a deeper infrastructure problem.

73% say infrastructure performance is slowing them down.
Even though
65% are increasing cloud investments.

More spend is not fixing the core issue.

Because the real issue is:

  • Data is still siloed

  • Access is still complex

  • Integration is still incomplete

One of the most interesting contradictions:

84% feel confident in their data.

But:

  • It is not fully governed

  • It is not fully accessible

  • It is not fully integrated

This is what I call false confidence.

Data looks fine within teams. But breaks at scale.

My take

This report captures where we are right now.

AI is moving fast. But data foundations are not keeping up.

And going forward, this is what will separate companies.

Not who adopts AI first. But who gets their data right first.

Where Cloudera fits

What I like here is the focus.

Cloudera is not just talking about AI. They are focusing on making data usable across environments.

Hybrid. Multi-cloud. Governance. That is exactly where the real problem is today.

Final thought

If you are serious about AI, start with your data.

Because right now, that is the biggest gap in the system.
